Travel in Haikou
Sea is to the north of the city. And the coastal line of the city is about 131 kilometers long, covering an area of 830 square kilometers. The beaches in Haikou are wide and stretch a long way. The sands are white and fine. Beaches like the Holiday Beach, the Dongzhai Port Beach and the Guilinyang Beach are good places for visitors. There are some islands and tidal flats out to the sea for the visitors too. Vegetation in Haikou features the natural shrubs of tropical areas. The most distinctive plant is the mangrove forest, which is made up of the mangrove and some other plants.

Transportation
Haikou enjoys convenient transportation. Hainan Meilan Airport, railway station, ship and expressway links cities of China and the whole world.

By Air - Haikou Meilan Airport, 25 km (16 miles) away from the center of Haikou, provides a convenient connection between Haikou and other cities at home and abroad. It has more than 200 air lines flying between major cities inside China, as well as direct flights to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and so forth.

By Train - A rail passenger service was established on December 5, 2004 that runs between Haikou and Guangzhou. The train travels on the boat and is the first Chinese rail connection that spans the sea. The crossing takes approximately 55 minutes.
