Shigatse Travel Guide
Shigatse, also named Xigatse, means 'the fertile land'. this frontier city is the second largest in Tibet. Covering an area of over 3875 square kilometers, and population of 820,000, Being the charm of Everest. It is the pride of Shigatse that has become one of the most charming tourist attractions in Tibet.

Located in the alluvial plain at the confluence of Brahmaputra and Nianchuhe rivers, where Tibet's most fertile land is to be found. Shigatse is 273 kilometers west to Lhasa city. At an elevation of 3,800 meters, With some 13 ethnic groups including Tibetan, Hui and Man, It is a typical living area for minority nationalities.

Weather & Temperature
Shigatse has a semi-arid, plateau temperate, monsoon climate. Temperatures range from a high of 23C to a low of -25C with an annual average temperature of 6.3C. From November to April, the temperature is quite low and thus it is not a recommended time to visit. June to July is considered the temperate rainy season. During this period, it rains much at night.

By Train - As the Qinghai-Tibet Railway stops in Lhasa, transportation to Shigatse is fairly easy. If you choose to travel by train, get off at the Lhasa Railway Station and take a bus heading to Shigatse from either the Lhasa Bus Station or the Beijing Road.

By Bus - The China-Nepal Highway connects Lhasa and Shigatse then stretches into Nepal.
