Introduction of Beijing China Millennium Monument

Constructed to welcome new millennium(the year 2000), the China Millennium Monument is a sundial-like architecture museum for collecting, exhibiting and researching in foreign arts. It is located between the China Military Museum and the China Central Television Complex(CCTV).

The China Millennium Monument is a grand structure. Fusing the spirit of traditional culture and the art of modern design, it covers an area of 4.5 hectares. On the southern entrance to the Monument, there is the Plaza of Holy Fire. Its area is 960 square meters, representing China's vast territory of 9,600,000 square kilometers.

Walking along the plaza, travellers will see a 270-meter long bronze tunnel that has inscriptions on its walls with chronogram that dates from when humans first appear to 2000 A.D. Inside the Monument is an art museum, which includes a grand century hall, a museum of eastern and western art, modern art museum, and multi-media art museum. In the grand century hall is an encircling mural painting with a circumference of 117 meters. It is one of the best in China.

Inscription of China Millennium Monument General Secretary Jiang Zemin is engraved on the front side of the monument at the south entrance and inscriptions for China Millennium Monument are engraved on back side of the monument.
