Introduction of Chairman Mao Memorial Hall Beijing
The Chairman Mao Memorial Hall located in the south of Tiananmen Square is a great square building with a total area of 57000 square meters. This site had previously stood the southern gate to the Forbidden City (Gate of China) during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Chairman Mao, the founder of the People's Republic of China, passed away on September 9, 1976. In honor of his accomplishment, a Memorial Hall was constructed in November 1976 and was completed in May the next year.
The Hall of Mourning is the main part of the memorial hall. In the center of the hall is a black granite coffin bed, on which a crystal coffin lies. Inside the coffin, the remains of Chairman Mao wears gray suit and is covered with the red flag of the Communist Party. People queue up for hundreds of meters to wait the chance to see the former chairman.
