In 1653 AD ( the 10th year during the reign of Shunzhi of Qing Dynasty ), it developed into Ningguta Angbang Zhangjin ( the high-ranking official in Qing Dynasty ), thus starts the Jilin province, and then Ningguta General in 1662 AD (the first year of Kangxi Period of the Qing Dynasty). In 1673 AD, Jilin city comes into being, was called Jilinwula in old times (meaning along the Songhua River in Manchu language), thus the name of Jilin province. In 1757 AD, the Ningguta General is replaced by Jilin General, from then on; the address of "Jilin" has upgraded from a county to an administrative region. |

In 1907, this region is formally called Jilin Province. And in the early period of Republic of China, the regime of Qing Dynasty and the prefecture institution were deposed, and provincial and prefectural governments take local authority without change in administrative division. After the founding of the People¡¯s Republic of China, the administrative division of Jilin has adapted several times. Then in 1954, Changchun became the capital of Jilin Province. Since 1979, the administrative region has remained ever since. |
