Introduction of the Zhaojun Tomb: |
Zhaojun Tomb is one of the eight most popular tourist attractions in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. also called Green Mound or Green Grave, is located south of the Hohhot City. It is the tomb of Wang Zhaojun, a commoner who married a Xiongnu chief in order to preserve the nation¡¯s unity, and is mentioned in historical documents and folklore as far back as the Tang dynasty.

Zhaojun Tomb was built in the Western Han period. It has two thousand years of history and is a protected cultural relic. The largest Han tomb in China, it is an earthen mound thirty-three meters high with a base of nearly thirteen thousand square meters. In summer months the mound is covered with wild flowers and grass which are said to thrive well into the autumn months, hence the nickname the Green Mound. mound is topped by a pavilion offering spectacular scenery. |
