Jilin City is located on the Songnen Plain at the end of the Changbai Mountain Range, the east of the central Jilin Province. The beautiful Songhua River twines through the city, from the Changbai Mountains in the southeast. The terrain gradually slopes downwards from the southeast to the northwest, creating and dividing the landform tapestry of Jilin into mountain area, hilly area, lakes in valleys and valley plains.
